Managers have big picture knowledge of work with little-applied experience. Managers and planners know how work is meant to be done – the one right way to do a task. Managers are not smarter, nor more informed, then the workers who do the work. The very act of moving the conceptual and actual definition of safety from an outcome to be achieved to a capacity to be managed will immediately change the way leaders and workers think about creating the capacity to be safe, safety. Knowing more about safety professionals' systems in both the success mode and the failure mode, knowing more about how their workers actually perform work for their organization, knowing that the leadership view of work is much different from the worker’s view of work are the necessities.
