Why we don’t learn?
Workers must be included in investigations and learning activities. Without the worker as a part of the Learning Team, safety professionals are actually making it more difficult for safety professionals' organization to fully understand how an event happened. The competent workers have a vested interest in ensuring that safety professionals' organization learns how events transpire. Workers are the vital, vocal majority in safety professionals' operational learning process from the start to the finish. Organizations that are magnificent at learning are good and quite experienced at performing and monitoring small experiments. The key is to build trust and confidence in safety professionals' organization’s ability to learn and improve for itself. Learning only gets better by investing more time for learning is critical to understanding the operational improvement. The learning process relies heavily on the people who are participating in the learning activity.
