ABSTRACT

Membranous nephropathy (MN) is an uncommon disorder in children. It is an immune complex glomerulonephritis characterized by thickened glomerular basement membrane (GBM), presence of subepithelial immune deposits, and lack of cellular proliferation or inltration within glomeruli.1 e subepithelial immune deposits always contain immunoglobulin G (IgG) and frequently complement C3.2 Proteinuria and nephrotic syndrome are the common manifestation of the disease at onset.3 Although the idiopathic form of the disease is much more common in adults, secondary disorders, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and infectious diseases, are common causes of MN in children.4 is chapter discusses the clinical manifestations, renal biopsy characteristics, etiologies and therapy of children with MN.
