ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION Fungal infections (mycoses) of the central nervous system (CNS) are more common than hitherto thought because of ever-increasing populations with compromised immune status and host defences. This is due to the pandemic of HIV disease and, ironically, to advances in medical care.
