ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION Patient safety as dened by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) is a discipline in the health care profession that applies safety science methods toward the goal of achieving a trustworthy system of health care delivery.1 Using key words such as discipline, safety science, and achieving trustworthiness, patient safety is conceptualized. ere is a growing body of safety science knowledge applicable to the health care environment. Now, more than ever, there is increasing recognition that safety must be an integral part of the practice of medicine. As a matter of fact, we are already seeing this type of transformation in our health care system.
