ABSTRACT

Working with others has long been recognised as an important feature of delivering patient care. In 1985, the Royal College of General Practitioners recommended that primary care professionals should work more closely together, pooling their skills to improve patient care and enhancing their personal job satisfaction. In 1987, the Health Education Authority introduced a team building training programme for primary care professionals. Since then belief in the importance of team working skills to the success of healthcare delivery in the NHS has continued to grow. 1
