ABSTRACT

Group analytic sessions in the form of small self-experience groups, modified action learning groups or whole system meetings in large groups provide such a space for reflection and readjustment. In a group analytic session members of an organisation can discover that they already possess the experience and skills needed to cope with a major restructuring of the organisation. The purpose of group sessions over time is to find the connections which have been lost between team members, departments or the organisational members and their task. The group analytic technique turns the relationship between client and management consultant on its head and puts both of them back into the roles they should be occupying: the client in charge and the consultant the servant of the group. The most important outcome of the weekly sessions was that most group members rethought and relaunched their careers in general practice.
