ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to introduce the main principles relevant to primary healthcare teams that want to implement research findings. The exercises will help the reader to become familiar with the tasks involved in finding and implementing research evidence. There are many implementation methods. MEDLINE contains an enormous number of references, but has a North American bias. It is available in most medical libraries, and British Medical Association members can use it from their home computers through an Internet connection. A systematic review provided the guidance for example primary healthcare team. Audit will be familiar to all primary healthcare teams and several excellent introductory books are available. A framework for linking clinical audit and other activities that support clinical effectiveness has also been put forward. There is surprisingly little evidence about the influence of teamwork on the implementation of research findings.
