ABSTRACT

Politics seems to have taken a turn for the worse. There is widespread mistrust of politicians; voting apathy paralyses the young. Political views within nations are acutely polarized, making electoral prediction impossible. The heart has long been associated with a deep interiority, centrality and spirituality, with wisdom, intuition, enthusiasm, and empathy. English has countless phrases with a multiplicity of prepositions, demonstrating the universality of the heart's power. The heart is primary: the first organ to develop in utero and the last to fail at death. Its prime job is to pump plasma and blood-cells carrying oxygen, nutrients, heat and energy through the vascular system to every part of the body, and then to return the spent fluids. The human body is a marvel of interlocking systems with discrete individual functions that relate with each other. A politics of heart will evidently be rooted in values.
