ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: This article deals with the issue of barrier-free public places in connection with the development of Czech legislation. The issue is presented in a case study of the significant regional transport junction in Ostrava-Svinov that connects the railway, bus and public transport. Due to the intensive use of these areas, it is necessary to assess these places not only from the viewpoint of transport, logistics, technology or economy, but also from the viewpoint of the movement of a person at all stages of his or her life and also from the viewpoint of a barrier-free access. The text focuses on appraisal and evaluation of completeness, continuity and correctness of barrier-free adaptations which were executed in the area of the transfer junction since 2000 in relation with Regulation number 398/2009 Coll. and the previous legislation (regulation no. 369/2001 Coll. and 492/2006 Coll.). The study pursues four basic criteria of barrier-free places, as well as the appropriateness and quality public space.
