ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: New progressive construction materials use environmentally-friendly, recycled additives to improve material properties. The aim of these additives is to decrease the price and to increase the bearing capacity of the construction structure. Asphalt mixtures are also modified with different kinds of additives. This study focuses on natural bitumen additives. Natural bitumen was used as the first kind of binder in asphalt mixtures. It is a high-class material and its deformation properties are better than those of refined bitumen. Sources of this material are limited, which makes the price of natural bitumen much higher than refined bitumen. In recent times different kinds of additives based on natural bitumen have become available, which should increase the quality of classic refined road bitumen with economic efficiency. The study focuses on three different additives based on Trinidad natural bitumen, tested for chosen deformation parameters.
