ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: Punching belongs to the most dangerous form of structural failure. Therefore, models for the assessment of punching resistance have to be safe enough in order to prevent such event. Current models are either empirical e.g. EC2 model or mechanical e.g. model based on Critical shear crack theory. Statistical evaluation of the safety plays very important role for calibration of both. The paper deals with evaluation of the safety of several models used for the assessment of punching resistance of column basis using database of 50 experiments on footings without shear reinforcement. Analysis have shown that iterative method for assessment of position of critical control perimeter introduced in current EC2 is correct, however the EC2 model overestimates punching shear resistance of the footings due to high contribution of the struts to the punching capacity. The best results were obtained with new German model (2016) and Model Code 2010.
