ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: This paper presents a new algorithm for the calculation of cable-pulley systems. This brand new algorithm considers the magnitude of the radius of each pulley. The procedure is suitable for the application of general FEM codes and offers higher accuracy of results at reasonable additional cost, compared to radii neglecting approaches. It facilitates the modelling of cable passing through multiple pulleys and includes internal dry friction in arbitrary pulley axis. It has been implemented in the RFEM program because of its accuracy and high efficiency compared to the previous algorithm. The paper contains the comparison of the commonly used algorithm, which ignores pulley radius, and the new algorithm.
