ABSTRACT

The dominance of the English language and globalization in the world are inseparably intertwined. The English language came to Ethipoia during the World War II. The author's positive attitude towards English, a foreign language and the author's third language, arises from growing up in the culturally and linguistically diverse environments of Ethiopia. From early childhood exposure to working hard in harsh conditions of rural Ethiopia, the author had developed endurance. This characteristic helped the author to overcome many obstacles faced in education. The author's educational journey took him/her to the land of the English language itself, the United Kingdom. He/She spent a total of six and half years there during which he/she obtained a master's degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), and then the author obtained a doctorate in language education. The English language has been the author's second passport and the only common language the author has used to interact with non-Ethiopians.
