ABSTRACT
Predictive policing relies on the most ambitious form of information collection: the collection of everything about everyone, all the time. In this respect it anticipates the “becoming environmental” of surveillance associated with the so-called “internet of things”: the possibility that the entire lived environment could be fitted with an interactive overlay that generates information about users as they move through space and time. This chapter invokes the notion of framelessness to discuss the post-subjective framework for monitoring and policing associated with the rise of data driven pre-emption. It describes the emergence of a post-disciplinary form of policing – not least because disciplinary logics rely on processes of subjectification. If, for panoptic surveillance, being watched all the time was at once too much and not enough, it becomes crucial for post-panoptic regimes.
