ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a review of international business literature focusing on Europe, with a view to classifying disciplinary fields of research and map their occurrence, proliferation and interactions. It proposes that European business is a component of the broader topic area of international business, and is identified by geographical, ideological, language and religious barriers. A systematic search of literature allowed for the creation of an extensive database of peer-reviewed academic journal articles and their associated geographical, subject and keyword associations to be analysed. Manual identification of the geographical scope and key topic coverage of the articles was made necessary by the generally high proportion of papers lacking keywords or geographical location identification. The chapter concludes by a summary of findings regarding the body of international business literature focusing on Europe, as represented in peer-reviewed journal publications, and suggestions for further research directions.
