ABSTRACT

The PEPFAR-funded documentary that FHI produced to highlight ALERT’s ART program features scenes of volunteer CHWs going about their daily work: walking along a dirt path and entering a mud house; helping a man step out of his house, onto a stretcher, and into a doctor’s office; spoon-feeding and fixing an IV to the arm of a bedridden woman in her home. Two profiles of volunteer CHWs and their now-healthy patients are also featured in the film. In the first, Abebech, a volunteer, enters a home constructed of corrugated tin walls and eucalyptus poles to find Fikirte, her patient, knitting. Abebech fans a small indoor cook fire, as Fikirte’s children look on and talk with Abebech. Speaking to the camera, Abebech gives a brief overview of her relationship to Fikirte.
