ABSTRACT

Despite the high level of participation in education, Korean university education has been criticised for producing graduates with skills misaligned to the needs of Korean industries. To address this problem, a system of cooperative education that links industry and university has been strongly promoted for several years recently. In this article, Korean history and experiences of cooperative education are presented focusing on the KOREATECH’s model that played a pivotal role in the nationwide distribution of cooperative education in Korea. This chapter will also discuss the obstacles we expect to encounter in promulgating cooperative education among other universities with suggestions to overcome those problems.
