ABSTRACT

The history of cooperative and work-integrated education (CWIE) in Thailand is relatively short compared with that of other countries in the West. However, its development and achievements have been impressive, impactful, and exemplary to the eye of others. Before its present day status, there are valuable episodes of policies and actions that have shaped Thailand’s CWIE, which are worth sharing. In this chapter, we therefore attempt to offer a summary of how CWIE was initiated and introduced to higher education in Thailand and how it has later flourished to attain such national success and international recognition as it enjoys now. We also suggest some practical lessons for CWIE development in other contexts based on a reflection on our 27-years’ experience.
