ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to provide an overview of the primary relationships occurring within the supervisory dynamic. These primary relationships include professional supervision, meta-supervision, and peer mentoring. Each section of the chapter will include relevant literature as well as authors’ refl ections, including recommendations, challenges, experiences, benefi ts, and drawbacks to that type of supervision. Each layer of oversight, from receiving guidance and feedback from a classmate to a formal supervision dynamic with an experienced professional, has tremendous importance to the development of an aspiring sport and performance psychology consultant. Furthermore, each layer of oversight has particular nuances that can make it diffi cult to navigate and maximize experience and growth.
