ABSTRACT

What would it be like if there were a single agreed-upon road map for successfully undertaking (and completing) the journey to become a sport psychology consultant? What if, from the start, we had known the exact steps to take to become competent, the ways to respond so we never felt uncomfortable or vulnerable, and the right answers to all the challenging questions and situations we would face so we would never make a mistake? In many ways, knowing the steps to take would have made our professional (and personal) lives much easier. Yet such a road map also would have made for a boring, unstimulating, and inauthentic experience. . . . It would have deprived us of the breadth of opportunities (and mistakes) that would allow us to grow and develop and defi ne who we each would become as sport psychologists.
