ABSTRACT

This chapter is intended to inform students and young professionals of the many ethical issues and dilemmas they may face throughout their graduate training and early professional experiences. Additionally, the chapter discusses ethical decision-making so that when problems do arise, individuals feel equipped to deal with them ethically, effi ciently, and thoroughly. The authors of this chapter have organized the content into the following seven sections: (1) Ethics Training, (2) Competency, (3) Confi dentiality and Privacy, (4) Boundaries, (5) Technology, (6) Social Media, and (7) Self-Regulation and Self-Care. Each section will provide an overview of the topic and discuss how it is relevant to ethical decision-making. Following these seven sections, the authors have provided a “Case Example,” which incorporates and highlights several ethical issues and dilemmas discussed throughout the chapter. Finally, a chapter summary and recommendations for graduate students and young professionals will be offered.
