ABSTRACT

In the first place, several expenses were unavoidably incurred during the past year which will not occur again. The contemplated removal from Castle Street, HolborD, to the larger and more convenient premises now occu-

pied by the Society, at 21b, Great College Street, Westminster, was referred to in last year's Report. The removal was effected on September 29th, but the premises were taken at Midsummer. The intervening three months were occupied in the work of repairing and fitting up the rooms, which was considerably delayed owing to the unexpected rebuilding of some adjacent premises involving the reconstruction of a portion of the pa.rty walls. Double rent was thus incurred for three months. This delay also postponed for three months the possibility of using the first machine purchased by the Society. The machine wa.s purchased when the removal to the new premises was decided on but before it was known that the repairs would occupy so long a time. The expense of putting out all the machine work (also referred to in last year's Report) was consequently again incurred for the first four months of the past year. The difference in the cost of the ma:::hine work under the two systems is shown by the following figures.
