ABSTRACT

WOMEN'S PROTECTIVE AND PROVIDENT LEAGUE.-On November 23rd a conference to consider the recommendations of the Royal Commission on the Factory and Workshops' Acts concerning new laws affecting women's work was held at the rooms of the Women's .Protective and Provident League, 31, Little Queen Street, Holborn. The Hon. Auberon Herbert took the chair, and there was a good attendance of ladies interested in the question of women's work. The Chairman said the Commissioners proposed to place workshops on the same footing as factories, the hours in 'which were 10! per day and not to exceed 60 hours per week. Also, wnen overtime was worked it was not to be paid for extra in money, but allowed for in succeeding weeks. For his part he thought it was far better that the work of women should be just as free as the work of men, and he could not understand why women should be l·educed to the level of children.
