ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the role of lifelong learning in tourism education. It first reviews the context of tourism industry in the 21st century in general and the tourism context in Georgia in particular. The principles of lifelong learning in postsecondary education from the tourism perspective are presented. Furthermore, an overview of the education system of Georgia and its lifelong learning strategies in vocational and higher education are examined. The chapter argues that to provide a high quality of tourism education for all, the education sector and tourism industry should adopt a collaborative stance. It also stresses the role of government and the private sector in creating and sustaining lifelong learning opportunities for the tourism workforce. A framework for lifelong learning for tourism education and human resource development is suggested, and the key elements of future of Georgia’s tourism education are discussed.
