ABSTRACT

The costume for the piece played a central role, as Gergen Mary wanted to dress in a way that insulated his from the surrounding world. The setting for this piece was a symposium on developments in qualitative inquiry at the annual meetings of the American Psychological Association in 2008. A sensuous performance seemed an answer, one that subverted abstract analysis through concrete action. The author feel sometimes that she shrink-wrapped closed off from the earth his remember that feeling in the mountains where his was walking one summer in a field of wildflowers, somewhere in the Rocky Mountains. Recalling a literary tradition, she wondered if his was seeking what Thoreau and Emerson described as the transcendental aura, which only exists on the page, and never in the flesh.
