ABSTRACT

The museum public and even museum officials are often confused about the difference between gallery teaching and gallery touring. Museum teachers are often mistaken for tour guides and vice versa. “Touring” is usually the word used to cover all educational activities in museum galleries including the more intensive teaching activities. Careful reading of the dictionary or comparison of real life museum lessons (teaching) and museum tours reveals the substantial differences between these two public services. Why, then, is there so much confusion?
