ABSTRACT

In this paper, we review the current state of use-wear analysis in Western Europe during the 1990s. The three main topics of methodological debate during the 1980s (high power/low power approach, diagnostic reliability of use-wear polish, and theories of polish formation processes) are revisited in the light of new methodological positions of use-wear analysts during the 1990s Finally, the types of archaeological problems which have been dealt with by use-wear specialists in recent years are shown.
