ABSTRACT
In developing the Framework we were informed and inspired by other sources of review and criticism in the museum field, such as the American Association of Museums’ Standards for Museum Exhibitions, the critiquing sessions at the AAM annual meetings, NAME Exhibitionist newsletter discussions, other articles, and countless exhibition evaluations, primarily summative studies. In this chapter, we will discuss what distinguishes the Framework from other methods of reviewing exhibitions.
What standards do I apply? My standards. I’m comparing the exhibit I’m critiquing against the perfect exhibit that only exists in my mind.
