ABSTRACT

This chapter gives an overview of the detailed information present in the remaining four volumes, as checklists that help you see at a glance the kind of tasks that lie ahead. Many community groups start oral history projects with a great deal of enthusiasm and, in their eagerness, begin by recording interviews with folks they consider wonderful storytellers. It also gives the information that you need to work through all of the planning steps and it helps you to prepare to manage the project. The chapter describes twelve steps for planning community oral history. It also describes eighteen steps for community oral history management. Taken together these five volumes provide a comprehensive guide to planning and carrying out a community oral history project. It will require hard work, of course most important tasks doubt it also can be great fun.
