ABSTRACT

The Martha's Vineyard Communication Association (MVCA) has evolved over years of dinners, shared experiences, and professional conferences. The annual "mini-conference" expanded over the first few years to two nights and to include a few more favorite friends. The long emergency room visit began with Sherry, a nurse, and an intern. Sherry is a great cook and expert pastry chef, creating eight-layer cakes that could be featured in a baking magazine. Many of the MVCA who were in town took an extra "mini-conference" to the Vineyard before Sherry left for Wisconsin and before she began treatment. The last bit of information concerned possible side effects during her treatment. As she starts treatment, Sherry depends on the strong networks she has: her family, the MVCA, her colleagues, and friends. Sara has invited Sherry to come back to the Vineyard with her parents, surely a respite from the treatment.
