ABSTRACT

Egyptian pyramids are certainly one of the most perfect and extraordinary shapes ever created by humans. Because most people know about the Egyptian pyramids by hearsay or through representations rather than by personal experience, they might be said to be more dream than reality. The majority of Grand Tour' artists passed on the pyramid's characteristic form, with the result that there was confusion between Egyptian and Roman pyramids, and it was the Roman form albeit while retaining the Egyptian emotional association that was to experience both rejuvenation and universal applause. The hundreds of Egyptian-inspired pyramids which have been built throughout the world attest to the extent to which a revival can become both multiple and complex by impacting on fields as diverse as architecture, beliefs and social phenomena. Egyptianizing pyramids proved to be most inspirational in the field of esotericism.
