At other times, the discipline has been transformed by the development of fresh theoretical approaches which challenge established perspectives. In a few cases, the discipline has been affected by external factors that have nothing to do with the practice of archaeology. As we build political forces into our explanatory models for past societies, we must also admit their effect on our practice.
