ABSTRACT

In his 2005 paper “Power to the (Indigenous) past and present! Or: The theory and method behind archaeological theory and method”, H. Martin Wobst critiqued common archaeological practices, arguing that archaeology does violence to Indigenous peoples and their pasts. In order to address these problems and enable the development of a decolonised archaeology in tune with the requirements of a contemporary Indigenous society, he proposed a more holistic approach to archaeological practice incorporating both material and nonmaterial cultural realms (2005:28).
