ABSTRACT

Eldon Yellowhorn grew up on the Peigan Indian Reserve in Alberta, though we now call it the Piikani First Nation. Whereas Piikani tradition pointed out the Star People who lived in the Sky Country, Eldon saw astronomical phenomena occurring light years across the universe. Only after Eldon graduated with a bachelor's degree in physical geography did he turn his attention to archaeology. After several seasons of toiling in museums and field excavations, Eldon decided to pursue advanced degrees in archaeology. Although advanced study in archaeology was his main focus, the stimulating intellectual exchanges with other graduate students were a surprising bonus. Academia is a novel experience for Eldon, but he enjoys the whole package. His research focus is a self-reflexive use of archaeological methods to elucidate the conditions affecting the Piikani Nation a century ago. Eldon try to disseminate his interest about archaeology to Aboriginal peoples, but he also have to consider the broad audience that Eldon Yellowhorn reach.
