ABSTRACT
T here is obviously huge potential for archaeobo-tanical research throughout much of Africa. In this chapter we draw attention to some largely ignored and fairly enigmatic archaeology that may well need a concerted archaeobotanical programme in order to understand the remains we encounter. Th ese are sporadic archaeological remains encountered on a number of islands on the Victoria Nyanza, the world’s second largest freshwater lake (by area).
