ABSTRACT
Automobiles have been the driving force and catalyst of Turin’s economy and consequently Piedmont’s industrialization since the beginning of the 20th century: charismatic and innovative entrepreneurs have created an economic system linked to the world of automobiles that became a cultural and social phenomenon. With increasing work opportunities, Turin has subsequently played a key role in Italy’s development and generated significant migration flows first from rural areas in Piedmont and thereafter Southern Italy.
