ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the framework for a neat and concise assessment procedure when evaluating clients or athletes. Validity is the most important aspect of any assessment procedure. There are five major types of validity: face validity, content validity, predictive validity, concurrent validity, and construct validity. Reproducing test results of physical tests is important to maintain the validity and reliability of a test. Test and measurement is at the heart of any resistance-training program. The words "please consult with physician before beginning an exercise program" are often found on the control panels of cardiovascular equipment. Nutritional programming should only be performed by a registered or licensed dietician. A needs analysis should be performed to evaluate the needs of the athlete and the demands of the sport. Warming up prior to performance testing is essential for assessing muscular strength. The Wingate anaerobic cycle test was designed as a means to measure overall anaerobic lower extremity power.
