ABSTRACT

This chapter illustrates the alignment of learner assessment and evaluation with WisCom components, and expands on the discussion of assessment. It reflects several years of experience assessing and evaluating collaborative learning in online communities in partnership with author Gunawardena, assisting in facilitating, mentoring, assessing, and evaluating her courses designed using the WisCom framework. The chapter shows how to assess the collaboration process for groups and individuals. It focuses on formative evaluation as we are interested in the process of developing wisdom communities and in the processof collaborative learning. The chapter demonstrates how to assess the collaboration process for groups and individuals, including specific competencies for individuals, peers, groups, and communities. It explores the methods to assess and evaluate collaborative learning in online learning communities. The chapter discusses how both formative and summarise evaluation informs future iterations of WisCom courses.
