ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses the concern of journalists within the context of the vast technological changes undertaken recently in the news media of India and Brazil. It focuses on the process of digitalization of newsrooms from within, from the perspective of the journalists themselves, from their personal experiences and opinions about it. The chapter discusses three aspects: The impact of technology on journalistic practice, the impact of technology on the quality of journalism production, and the impact of technology on the personal story of a journalist. The contemporary journalist is a digital journalist competent in using new technology; working in conditions of convergence of technologies, media platforms, and genres; integrating social media with news. Many media in India provided their journalists with smart phones with built-in apps to collect and disseminate news. In India, journalists were more concerned about bringing accountability into their journalistic work.
