ABSTRACT

Today, employees are expected to be innovative and to come up with new ideas, products and processes. Literature suggests that informal learning facilitates employees’ innovative work behaviour. The purpose of this chapter is to empirically investigate the effects of four informal learning behaviours – feedback seeking, help seeking, information seeking and reflection – on innovative work behaviour. Analyses of two studies reveal that three informal learning components (i.e. acting upon feedback from colleagues, information seeking, and reflection) are related to innovative work behaviour. The results indicate how to organise learning opportunities for employees in order to foster their innovative work behaviour.
