ABSTRACT

HD Digital Video Disc (DVD) uses the content protection technology Advanced Access Content System (AACS) licensed by AACS Licensing Administrator for digital rights management security. HD DVDs use “Advanced Content” instructions and data to allow interactive content to be authored for discs. After the astounding success of standard DVD technologies in the 1990s, the future for optical discs seemed boundless. Prior to the release of any discs, the HD DVD format received exclusive support from Universal Studios, Paramount Pictures, and Warner Bros Pictures. The HD DVD specification includes several file systems, such as ISO 9660 and Universal Disk Format. The HD DVD audio specification supports up to 24-bit/192 kHz for two channels and up to eight channels of 24-bit/96 kHz encoding. The audio is stored in the Enhanced Video Object container along with the video and the advanced interactive content.
