ABSTRACT
In April 2016, the world, including Southeast Asia, commemorated the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. The Manila Shakespeare Company shared recitation of a Shakespeare’s sonnet. Singapore issued a special stamps collection and the Singapore Repertory Theatre planned the production of Romeo and Juliet. A bilingual (English/ Cantonese) adaptation of Romeo and Juliet in Kuala Lumpur-called Lo Mio and Chiu Liet-turned the play into a tragic-comic clash between Western-inuenced and feudal families in China.2
