ABSTRACT

Part III presents nine practical examples of how Positive Pedagogy can be used across a range of sports and contexts to ground the ideas developed in the book in practice. It draws on my experiences of coaching in different countries and settings, and on those of four others who I invited to contribute to this section. The aim of this part of the book is not to tell or show coaches what to do. Its aim is to provide insights into real-life experiences of coaches working in different sports and activities and how they have interpreted and applied Positive Pedagogy in their coaching. This includes the experiences of the two colleagues and two Ph.D. students I invited to share their experiences of, and ideas on, adopting Positive Pedagogy for their coaching as coaches and teachers new to the approach. Rather than being instructive, the examples provided are reflective, first-hand

accounts of coaching that adopts Positive Pedagogy, and which reflect the openness and reflective attitude to coaching practice promoted in this book. The examples of applications presented in this section of the book are by no means intended to be prescriptive or to provide a step-by-step model for its implementation. The aim of each chapter in Part III is to provide insights into actual experiences of coaching and teaching that can generate thinking about how the reader could apply this pedagogy to his/her own coaching or how it could influence their practice. Like Positive Pedagogy, the intent of these chapters is to promote curiosity, thinking and reflection.
