ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the practices and techniques bisexuals employ to represent bisexuality in digitally mediated spaces, and the affordances digital media provide in recreating bisexual signifiers. It focuses on inscribing bisexuality; however, sharing coming out and identity narratives; social support; organisational activities; inscribing bisexuality; and social activism are not mutually exclusive and activities such as coming out can also be considered a form of inscribing bisexuality, for example. The practices of representing bisexuality in digital spaces include using, manipulating and re-appropriating symbols, images, text and hyperlinks to construct a culturally intelligible notion of a bisexual identity. An obvious but important mode of inscribing bisexuality is through participation in bisexual spaces. Inscribing bisexuality in digital spaces includes constructing bisexual specific profiles, using iconic bisexual symbols, anchoring those symbols with text, hyperlinking to bisexual specific content as well as hyperlinking to other bisexual spaces and creating original content specific to bisexuality.
