ABSTRACT

This chapter sets the scene for sex education and outlines some of the major digital resources, including mobile phone apps, available at the time of writing, which help individuals get information whether they be young people who need their questions answered or teachers seeking to provide students with the information that they need. All signs point to a need for a program that will build on the national initiative for broadband and high speed wireless in schools and the successful expansion of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) at the university level, taking the excitement of high-quality, interactive, open education to address a topic of critical public health importance – teen sex education. Technology can be used during in-classroom experiences as a teaching tool or a research tool. These days, there is a movement afoot to engage more philanthropists and corporate social giving in "learning outside the classroom", or sex education online.
