ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the main topics relating to young people's sexual culture and digital media. It discusses searching for information about sexuality, then deals with performance of sexuality, mainly on social network sites (SNS), with the consumption of pornography, and finally, focuses on sexual interaction through cybersex. Gender seems to be one of the most important variables in relation to the behaviour connected to the research of sexual information. Young people consider online spaces such as social networks important for their performance of intimacy but they continuously have to evaluate them to maintain material as public or private specific. Cybersex is seen as something that could expose them to the risk of defamation or humiliation that could undermine their public image. Young people prefer to consume pornography via mobile media to avoid parental control connected to the possibility of leaving digital footprints in the case of the use of a shared computer.
