ABSTRACT

This chapter articulates how women can find both their politics and a comfort in their own skin through sexy selfie practices. "Nude selfies til I die" was the extent of Kim Kardashian's Webbly awards acceptance speech in 2016, when she won an award for her unparalleled success online. Sexy', which is used by many groups but here pertains to 'sexy for Cis women', seems exceedingly hard to pin down for analysis. Selfies are receiving continuing popular and scholarly attention. Katie and Rachel both started posting sexy, naked selfies on Tumblr around 2011, and author have had the privilege of witnessing their journeys. Thus, sexy selfie practices become self-aware. Taking and posting images moves from an impulsive search for a pleasurable subject position, to a reflexive choice of actualising one's subject position through this practice and having a firm sense of personal politics about it.
