ABSTRACT
This chapter outlines the core values and principles that underpin all their work. It highlights the influence of the philosophy and pedagogy of Reggio Emilia, with its emphasis on listening, documentation and critical reflection. The chapter draws on examples from research projects with young children to illustrate how participation in creative environments supports critical thinking and the wider well-being of children and adults. 5×5×5=creativity is a visionary and ground-breaking research project which demonstrates the depth of learning fostered through exquisitely sensitive creative partnership. The chapter focuses on the complexity of the process involved in 5 × 5 × 5: its structure, values, intellectual depth and aesthetic qualities. It explores the philosophical foundations of the approach that involves a fundamental shift in thinking about children, their learning and creativity.
