ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book describes the journey of the migrants from the subdepots to Suriname. It focuses on the Bhojpuri migration, which occurred during the colonial period and is still taking place today, leaving a deep imprint in the lives of people in so many countries and whose effects are still being felt even after so many years, has been able to bring out the pathos and sufferings experienced both by the people who were uprooted from their homes and hearths and by the people who experienced the pain of seeing their loved ones go away to distant lands to face an indefinite future. The book presents an overview of the Bidesia folk culture. It describes the mass migration that is still going on from the Bhojpuri region to various parts of India, especially to big cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Surat and Bangalore.
